In honor of Earth Day, FTF wanted to bring some “green” to Wall Street… and no, not that kind of green, but rather some earth-friendly green knowledge! So here are three quick tips on how you can “Green” your office and help the environment!
1) Getting the Right Light
On average the commercial sector uses 60% of its electricity for lighting. So try to cut back on this number and replace incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent lamps. These lights cost 75% less and last 10 times longer. Also, be sure to turn off lights when leaving a room or going home for the day.
2) Minimize the Paper Trail
Be thoughtful when printing. Ask yourself “Do I really need to print these papers?” Also be more mindful of paying bills online. And when you do use paper be sure to recycle it when you are done!
3) Use Technology
Cut down on the travel and use videoconferencing and conference calls when possible. Of course face-to-face meetings will be necessary, but cut back when possible. You can also set your computer to sleep mode when not in use. Also, be sure that all new tech items you purchase are Energy Star-qualified or recycled!
So what does your office do to stay eco-friendly!?
