I think Derivatives are one of the toughest topics to master in the world of financial services. The complexity of derivatives is not only never-ending, but it is forever changing. Even now, as I sit here and type, there are changes and further uncertainty building around what derivatives operations and processing will look like in 2012. So I ask the question: If derivatives operations are so up in the air due to pending regulations and other issues, will there ever be a way to be a true expert on the topic?
With our 6th Annual OTC Derivatives Operations & Processing Conference a little less than 4 weeks away, I have been researching a lot of various sub-topics lately. I must admit, the more I read the more confusing it seems to get, and concrete answers are hard to come by. Data, collateral, transparency and clearing are major topics but yet they are all affected by one thing: the aforementioned pending regulations. Without a crystal ball, it’s difficult to see what the world of derivatives will shape up to be in 2012, but hopefully, after our conference, I and everyone else attending will have a firmer grasp on the situation. In the meantime, we would love to hear from anyone able to shed some light on the situation now!
