Voting for the FTF Awards, which got a record number of nominations, gets underway to honor the best in post-trade securities operations.
Four women have made the list of nominees for the Ops Business Person of the Year category of the 2017 FTF News Technology
Innovation Awards, reports Financial Technologies Forum (FTF), owner of online news service FTF News and FTF Focus magazine.
In addition, FTF reports that it has finalized the list of nominees and has begun the voting process for the seventh contest since the awards process began in 2011. The FTF awards honors the best in the post-trade securities operations during the previous year.
The women and one man nominated in the Ops Business Person of the Year category are (in alphabetical order by name):
- Paula Arthus, managing director and head of Omgeo and Data Services at the DTCC;
- Sheryl Brown, director of the business development analyst team, Ash Brokerage;
- Cheryl Nash, president, investment services, Fiserv;
- And Susan M. Vismor, head of global business continuity for BNY Mellon.
Charlie Marchesani, president, global technology and operations (GTO), Broadridge Financial Solutions, has also been nominated for
Ops Business Person of the Year.
The Ops Business Person of the Year award honors “an executive-level individual who has advanced the cause of financial technology innovation from the business side of the aisle. The winner of this award can be from a solution provider, an end-user firm or related consultancy committed to improving operations for financial services firms,” according to FTF.
“While women have been hitting glass ceilings in other segments of the financial services industry, securities operations is proving to be very open to women at the executive and senior management levels. We at FTF are very glad that our awards effort reflects this positive trend,” says Maureen Lowe, president and founder of FTF. Lowe is also the publisher of FTF News and FTF Focus.
In the other category that honors an outstanding individual, FinTech Person of the Year, the nominees are (alphabetical by name):
- Veronica Augustsson, CEO, Cinnober Financial Technology;
- Faisal Husain, CEO and co-founder, Synechron;
- Vijay Mayadas, senior vice president and global head of corporate strategy and U.S. fixed income, Broadridge Financial Solutions;
- James Waldinger, founder and CEO, Artivest;
- And John Wise, CEO, InvestCloud.
The FinTech Person of the Year category spotlights an individual for being “highly effective in advancing a financial technology issue that has had a major impact upon the industry,” according to FTF. “The person to be honored has devoted much
time and effort toward proliferating a new standard, a key technology initiative, a regulatory-related project or a technology breakthrough that benefits the industry.”
In another major category, the Service Provider of the Year, had a record seven nominations (in alphabetical order):
- Backstop
- Broadridge Financial Solutions
- Eagle Investment Systems
- OpenLink Financial
- SmartStream Technologies
- State Street Global Exchange
- And TriOptima
This award honors a provider that “for advancing the delivery of service, extraordinary client support, new synergies with key market participants and extraordinary leadership in the industry,” according to FTF.
The nomination process for 2017 elicited nearly 300 submissions from leading financial technology companies that offer software, services and systems to facilitate middle- and back-office securities operations. The FTF awards encompasses 20-plus categories, and except for the Editor’s Choice award, the ultimate winners are selected by FTF News subscribers and readers as well as qualified financial services industry professionals who cast their votes via an online system.
Voting for the FTF Awards is underway and closes on April 7. The 2017 winners will be announced on May 15.
