FINRA Fills Multiple Governance Posts
The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority reports several changes to its board of governors.
Stephen M. Cutler, executive vice president and vice chairman, JPMorgan Chase & Co., has been elected as a large firm governor, one of three on the board. Stephen A. Kohn, president and CEO, Stephen A. Kohn & Associates, Ltd., has become a small firm governor, also one of three on the board.
In addition, the following appointments become effective at the authority’s annual meeting:
Kathleen A. Murphy, president of Fidelity Personal Investing, will succeed Governor John J. Brennan as the investment company affiliate on the board. Amy L. Webber, president of Cambridge Investment Research, Inc., will succeed Murphy as the independent dealer/insurance affiliate governor.
Also, three public governors were appointed to second terms. They are: Susan Wolburgh Jenah, former president and CEO of the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization (IIROC) of Canada
investment industry regulatory organization of Canada; Joshua S. Levine, managing director of Kita Capital Management; and Elisse B. Walter, former SEC chair and commissioner.
In addition, Joseph M. Mecane, who will be joining Citadel Securities in September as the head of execution services, was appointed to a second term as floor member representative governor.
CFTC Names Chief Economist
U.S. regulator the CFTC reports the appointment of Bruce Tuckman as the agency’s chief economist and former CFTC chief economist Sayee Srinivasan as a special advisor in the chairman’s Office. Tuckman is an “expert in modern derivatives markets,” the CFTC says.
The office of the chief economist “provides economic advice to the Commission and conducts research on policy issues critical to the agency,” the commission’s statement notes. “This office also plays an integral role in the implementation of new financial market regulations by providing economic expertise and cost-benefit considerations underlying those regulations.”
Tuckman joins the CFTC from New York University’s Stern School of Business, where he was a clinical professor of finance. “His recent writings have focused on financial markets policy, including the role of derivatives during the crisis and the post-crisis regulation of derivatives,” the CFTC adds.
Prior to NYU Stern, Tuckman held “leadership and management positions in the prime services and fixed income divisions of Barclays Capital and Lehman Brothers,” per the CFTC. “He began his career in the financial industry at Salomon Brothers.”
Aviva Investors Appoints Head of Multi-Asset Funds
Aviva Investors, the asset management business of Aviva plc, reports the appointment of Sunil Krishnan as global head of multi-asset funds.
“He will oversee the teams managing multi-asset portfolios across institutional and retail clients. He joins in October and will be based in London, reporting to Peter Fitzgerald, global head of multi-assets, according to a statement.
Krishnan joins from Santander Asset Management, where he was a senior portfolio manager responsible for outcome-oriented funds and asset allocation strategy, per the statement. “He brings more than 15 years’ industry experience, having previously worked at Hermes Investment Management as head of global asset allocation and at the BT Pension Scheme, where he was head of market strategy.”
Before his new position, he was “a multi-asset portfolio manager and strategist at BlackRock with responsibilities for institutional and retail clients,” according to Aviva.
Additionally, Aviva notes that Gavin Counsell, who has been with Aviva Investors for more than five years, has been named a manager on the Aviva Investors multi-strategy target income fund.
Aviva Investors notes that it operates in 15 countries in Asia Pacific, Europe, North America and the United Kingdom, “with assets under management of £351 billion [$451.1 billion] as at 30 June 2017.”
