Interdealer broker BGC Partners has hired Eric Hirschhorn as its new chief information officer (CIO), replacing BGC’s previous CIO Yevette Tierney, who “left the company to pursue other interests, effective immediately,” according to the statement.
“I would like to acknowledge the outstanding work performed by Yevette and her team over the past eight years,” says Howard W. Lutnick, chairman and CEO of BGC, in a statement.
Hirschhorn comes to BGC from Bank of America — Merrill Lynch, where he held various “key positions leading global teams across rates and fixed income, currency and commodities e-trading technology,” according to the statement. He has more than 25 years of experience in technology roles at financial services firms including BofA, Morgan Stanley, Citigroup and others. He will report to Shaun D. Lynn, BGC’s president, effective immediately.
At BGC Partners, Hirschhorn will assume global responsibility for maintaining and expanding the technology powering the company’s hybrid and electronic trading, market data and software solutions.
“Eric has the perfect combination of computer science prowess, a deep understanding of how the global capital markets function, and a long history of matching the needs of those who sit on trading desks with world-class solutions provided by industry-leading technologists,” says Lynn, BGC’s president, in a statement.
“As we continue to innovate and expand BGC’s hybrid and fully electronic solutions for our customers and brokers in financial services, as well as expand our offerings in Real Estate Services, we need executives with an established track record of addressing complex technologies and businesses on a global scale,” Lynn adds.
