The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has released two new reports offering a more detailed view into the operations of registered investment managers and money market funds. The reports are part of the SEC’s Division of Investment Management’s ongoing efforts to increase transparency and share data about the combined $49 trillion industry.
The Annual Registered Investment Company Update provides insights into the $41.5 trillion registered investment management industry. It includes data on service providers, the volume and type of assets managed, and specific operational activities such as securities lending, use of derivatives, and liquidity risk management practices. The report also highlights how these firms engage with custodians, auditors, and other third-party vendors.
The Money Market Fund Statistics report expands on previous publications, offering enhanced statistical analysis and new data visualizations. It draws on Form N-MFP, the public monthly reporting form for money market funds, to provide details on internal affiliated funds, portfolio composition, liquidity levels, cash flows, and industry concentration metrics.
To support data-driven analysis and public research, the SEC is making the data from both reports available in structured, machine-readable formats. The regulator says this accessibility is intended to facilitate historical trend analysis and improve market understanding.
