The financial for sale sign 2technology sector has not been without its fair share of acquisitions in 2010. Some of the bigger and more talked about acquisitions this year include Sybase’s purchase of Aleri, Broadridge’s acquisition of City Networks, MSCI’s acquisition of RiskMetrics and the recent acquisition of Sophis by Misys. Thomson Reuters went on a buying spree with a total of four acquisitions closely followed by Broadridge with three. Wall Street Systems, Temenos, and SunGard also have a couple of acquisitions to their names this year. In total, I counted 41 notable financial technology acquisitions, but please let me know if I’ve left anything significant out!

With just under three weeks to go before the New Year, we could still see a couple more acquisition announcements before the year is over. It will be interesting to see, however, who the buyers and sellers will be next year. Considering we are seeing some extra cash floating around in the fintech space, my prediction is that we’ll see more than 41 companies on the 2011 list. What are your 2011 M&A predictions?
