For the third year in a row, FTF is happy to once again be collecting school supplies and backpacks for Volunteers of America and their annual Operation Backpack campaign! Our goal is to make this year the best yet by increasing our involvement and the number of school supplies we donate. We are, therefore, asking our readers to consider joining our efforts to gather school supplies that will go to homeless children in the NYC area. Thousands of children live in NYC’s homeless and domestic violence shelters and one of the most devastating consequences of homelessness is the impact it has on a child’s education. These children need school supplies for the upcoming school year and we can all help!
Here are three simple ways
1) If you would like to consider donating a filled backpack you can choose a grade listed below and print the supply list. Use these lists to fill a backpack and email me so I can arrange to have someone pick up the supplies from you. (There is a greater need of backpacks and supplies for Grades 9-12.)
2) If you can’t fill an entire backpack then you can purchase any supplies listed on the Volunteers of America Amazon wish list here. (Items ordered from the Amazon wish list will be shipped directly to Volunteers of America.)
3) Or, you can donate here through our virtual site: www.operationbackpack-ftf.org.
Please let me know if you have any questions because, as I mentioned, we would love to get more involved this year! Volunteers of America is a great organization and we love supporting them through their annual backpack campaign in the summer and the holiday toy drive in the winter! To see more information on Volunteers of America and the upcoming Operation Backpack campaign please check out their website.
Donations will be accepted until August 10th so there’s plenty of time to hit those back-to-school sales that seem to begin before kids can even start singing “School is out for Summer.”
