This Sunday is arguably the biggest sports day of the year, “Big-Game Sunday”. We thought we would take this opportunity to let all of you Wall Street natives use your skill set of calculating the odds and hedging against risk to predict the outcome of this great game (for free of course!).
This Sunday in Arlington, Texas two great teams, the Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers will battle it out for the famous Vince Lombardi Trophy (made by Tiffany’s in case you didn’t know and worth around $25,000). The big questions are: Who will win? And what will be the final score? Comment who you think the winner will be along with the final score and whoever comes the closest will win a Starbucks gift card worth $25.
Here are some fun facts about the game to keep in mind:
* The spread for this year’s game is -2.5 in favor of Green Baydescribe the image
* Cornerback Charles Woodson of the Green Bay Packers has won the Heisman Trophy and NCAA National Championship. This game could make him the 3rd player ever to add the Lombardi Trophy winner to that impressive resumè, but are the odds on his side?
* The Steelers have arguably the best defensive line in the league (in reality they are ranked as the 3rd best, but really?). It’s going to be more than tough for Green Bay to get past that.
* The Steelers average big game score is 24-19 and the Packers is 31.8-19
So keep this in mind while you make your best guess! We’ll post the winner on Monday so be sure to check back to see if you won!
Update:
Thanks everyone for participating in our Game Day challenge. It was a great game and both teams played well but Green Bay took home the Lombardi trophy with a 31-25 win over the Steelers. Although I am sure there are disappointed Steelers fans out there, it’s worthwhile to note that the past three times the Packers won the Super Bowl, the market rose 16% that year. Whether you are a Cheesehead or a diehard member of the Steeler Nation, I am sure all of us on Wall Street are hoping to see that happen this year too.
That being said, our official winner is Adam Honore of Aite Group because not only did he pick the winning team but he was also closet to the final score. Well done Adam!
