A former Nasdaq executive is returning to the exchanges and technology company after serving as chief financial officer and managing director for private equity giant, the Carlyle Group in Washington, D.C.
Adena Friedman will rejoin Nasdaq OMX as president of the company’s Global Corporate, Information and Technology Solutions group, officials say. The group consists of information services, technology solutions and corporate client group business segments. In the newly created role, Friedman will oversee the strategy and operations and will have financial responsibility for each of these businesses, officials say. She will report directly to Bob Greifeld, CEO for Nasdaq OMX.
Based in New York, Friedman will officially assume the new role on June 12 and her direct reports will include John Jacobs, executive vice president, Global Information Services; Anna Ewing, executive vice president, Global Technology Solutions; and Bruce Aust, executive vice president, Global Corporate Client Group.
Her prior positions at Nasdaq OMX included her time as chief financial officer, head of the company’s data products business, and her work for corporate strategy. She is credited with helping expand Nasdaq via her role as “a central driver of the company’s acquisition strategy,” officials say. She helped orchestrate the acquisitions of INET, OMX, Philadelphia and Boston Exchanges.
“When I arrived at Nasdaq in May 2003, I was incredibly fortunate to be able to partner with someone of Adena’s abilities and ambitions,” says Greifeld in a prepared statement. “She started her career at Nasdaq and played a major role in shaping the strategy that guides many of our actions today.”
As Friedman returns, Nasdaq OMS promoted Hans-Ole Jochumsen, executive vice president, to president of Global Trading and Market Services, and he will continue to report to
Greifeld, officials say. Greifeld says that the promotion is “recognition of his ability to build and lead teams through a well-architected and articulated global strategy.”
Since 2008, Jochumsen has headed the company’s Transaction Services Nordics division, and has been responsible for the Nordic and Baltic markets, overseeing strategy for the European equities markets. He also served as president and member of the OMX Executive Team. From 2010 to 2013, he served as the chairman of the Federation of European Securities Exchanges.
