CFTC Commissioner Sharon Bowen has announced her legal and policy staff to help her “carry out the Commission’s efforts to implement the Dodd-Frank Act and ensure compliance with the Commission’s regulations,” according to a statement.
The appointments are:
- Eric Juzenas, principal adviser
Juzenas previously served in several senior roles at the CFTC, including deputy director of the Office of Legislative Affairs, chief operating officer and senior counsel for former CFTC Chairman Gary Gensler. In those positions, Juzenas played a key role in shaping and implementing the derivatives portions of the Dodd-Frank Act and overseeing the operations of the CFTC, according to the statement.
- Petal Walker, chief counsel
Walker joins the Commission from law firm Wilmer Hale, where she was a senior associate and assisted clients – including swap execution facilities, designated contract markets, derivatives clearing organizations, futures commission’s merchants and others – with Dodd-Frank compliance. Walker has published pieces in several legal journals on issues such as extraterritoriality, foreign and domestic exchanges, mandatory clearing and other topics.
- Justin Slaughter, chief policy advisor and special counsel.
Slaughter comes to the CFTC from the staff of Massachusetts Senator Edward J. Markey, where he served as general counsel. Slaughter advised Sen. Markey on legal and financial matters, including Dodd-Frank implementation, CFTC funding, international economic regulations and other topics. Slaughter previously worked for then-Congressman Markey as an Investigative Counsel, and investigated the influence of manipulation and speculation in oil and natural gas commodities markets.
