David Bianco Tapped for Chief Investment Strategist for the Americas
Deutsche Asset Management (Deutsche AM) has a new chief investment strategist for the Americas and head of equities in the U.S., David Bianco, who has been serving as the bank’s U.S. Equity Strategist since 2012, officials say.
Bianco will be based in New York and will report globally to Stefan Kreuzkamp, chief investment officer and head of Active Asset Management, and regionally to Bob Kendall, head of Deutsche Asset Management, Americas, officials add.
“In his dual roles, Bianco will play an integral part in assisting clients with portfolio construction across Deutsche AM’s full range of investment vehicles and asset classes, and will also lead a team of experienced investors responsible for the management of the active equity assets in the Americas,” bank officials say.
Bianco has 20 years of investment research experience and a decade of experience as an equity strategist, officials say. Before joining Deutsche Bank, Bianco held the position of head U.S. Equity Strategist for Bank of America Merrill Lynch Investment Research and Global Wealth Management. He also spent seven years at UBS and five years at Financial Account Standards Board’s Financial Accounting Standards Advisory Council, before his time at BofA-Merrill Lynch.
Northern Trust Hires from Candriam for Middle East Post
Jean-Paul Hobeika has been named director of institutional business for Northern Trust Asset Management in the Middle East.
He will be based in Abu Dhabi and is “responsible for supporting the continuing expansion of Northern Trust’s investment management business in the region,” which Northern Trust began in 1987, the firm says.
Hobeika has more than 15 years of financial services experience in the Middle East, in trading, relationship management and sales, according to Northern Trust, which he joined from Candriam Investors Group, where he was responsible for institutional sales.
Northern Trust Asset Management, founded in 1889, tallies institutional and individual investors in 29 countries, with $946 billion in assets under management as of September 30, 2016. It is composed of Northern Trust Investments, Inc., Northern Trust Global Investments Limited, 50 South Capital Advisors, LLC, Northern Trust Global Investments Japan, K.K., NT Global Advisors, Inc. and investment personnel of The Northern Trust Company of Hong Kong Limited and The Northern Trust Company.
SEC Appoints Deputy Chief Counsel in Investment Management
The SEC reports that Sara P. Crovitz has been named deputy chief counsel and associate director in the division of investment management’s chief counsel’s office.
Crovitz will “assist the Chief Counsel in overseeing legal guidance under the Investment Company and Investment Advisers Acts of 1940” and also will “focus on strategic collaboration between the Chief Counsel’s Office and other offices within the Division of Investment Management and in the Commission and plans to implement leadership initiatives that promote professional development among the staff,” the commission says in a statement.
Crovitz joined the SEC in 1996 as an attorney in the office of general counsel and in 1999 joined the division of investment management as a senior counsel in the office of investment company regulation, the SEC says, adding that she “later became a Senior Counsel, a Branch Chief, and an Assistant Chief Counsel in the Chief Counsel’s Office. Prior to her SEC service, Ms. Crovitz was an Associate with Steptoe & Johnson from 1994-1996.”
SEC Names Associate Director in Investment’s Risk and Examinations
In another SEC appointment, Timothy Husson has been named associate director in the division of investment management’s risk and examinations office.
As associate director, Husson will “oversee the management and operations of key data analysis and examination projects and initiatives related to the asset management industry and provide guidance on complex financial and quantitative issues as he leads the Division of Investment Management’s asset management monitoring program,” the commission says in a statement.
He has been a member of the SEC and of the division of investment management since 2014, “serving as branch Chief, Quantitative Research Analyst (Financial Engineer) and Financial Analyst Fellow in the Division of Investment Management’s Risk and Examinations Office,” per the SEC’s statement.
“Prior to his SEC service, Dr. Husson [a Ph.D. in Computational Neuroscience] was a Senior Financial Economist at Securities Litigation & Consulting Group, where he provided quantitative analysis and drafted expert reports for arbitrations, state and federal court hearings, and regulatory proceedings,” officials add.
