New FINRA Exec from Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton
The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) reports that its board has named Robert W. Cook as its president and chief executive officer, “effective the second half of 2016.”
He succeeds Richard G. Ketchum, chairman and CEO since 2009.
Cook joins from Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP, where he became a partner in 2013.
At Cleary Gottlieb, Cook “focused on the regulation of securities markets and market intermediaries, including broker-dealers, exchanges, alternative trading systems and clearing agencies,” FINRA says.
Prior to that, FINRA adds, he was the SEC’s director of the division of trading and markets. FINRA maintains 16 offices with 3,600 employees around the U.S.
Broadridge Advisor Solutions Taps Ex-American Stock Exchange CEO
A former chairman and CEO of the American Stock Exchange, Salvatore F. Sodano, has been appointed to the newly created role of vice chairman for Advisor Solutions, a business unit within Broadridge Financial Solutions. In addition, Stephen Scruton has been promoted to president of the unit, say Broadridge officials. (AMEX is now NYSE MKT, part of the NYSE/Intercontinental Exchange group.)
“Sodano will lead Broadridge Advisor Solutions, integrate core wealth management assets and set standards of operational and service excellence for clients,” according to a statement from Broadridge. “Scruton will oversee revenue and product management activities and ensure advisor solution offerings are leveraged to drive integrated growth.” Sodano Background
Before his time at the American Stock Exchange, Sodano served as chief operating office (COO) and vice chairman of the
National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD), the former parent company of the Nasdaq Stock Market. (The NASD became part of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) in 2007.)
“Sodano will continue as an independent director and vice chairman of the board at Associated Capital Group as well as vice chairman of the board at Gabelli Securities, Inc.,” Broadridge officials say.
Scruton, who moves up from his post as vice president and general manager at Broadridge, was the founder of Direxxis, acquired by Broadridge in March 2015, officials say. Prior to Direxxis, he was founder of Marketing Information & Technology, acquired by Lexis Nexis. Scruton has served in senior marketing roles and sales positions at Trans Union and board positions at leading analytic and data organizations.
“We have the management strength, experience and resources to be a significant force in wealth management in the next few years,” Scruton says in a prepared statement.
Broadridge Advisor Solutions offers enterprise and advisor marketing, communication and data offerings to wealth management firms, individual advisors and agents, officials say.
BondWave Names MD for Business Development
BondWave, a Wheaton, IL-based financial technology company, reports the appointment of Tony Miscimarra as managing director of business development, a newly established position.
His mandate is to manage and grow revenue and infrastructure, says BondWave, which points out that it is also a registered investment advisor. He joins from Tradeweb Direct, where he was managing director, according to BondWave’s statement, which notes also that before Tradeweb Miscimarra was CEO of Fixed Income Solutions LLC.
Kx Hires Data Storage Expert
Kx Systems, a New York City-based analytics specialist for streaming, real-time and historical data, reports the appointment of Glenn Wright as a senior architect.
Wright is a 20-plus-year veteran of the high-performance computing industry, Kx says.
Prior to joining Kx, Wright worked for DNN Storage, where he was responsible for the introduction of “new architectures for the massive scaling of financial services market data and risk analytics, using high-performance in-memory databases,” according to Kx, which is a subsidiary of First Derivatives plc.
OpenDoor Adds Two to Advisory Board
OpenDoor Trading, launched in 2015, reports the appointment of industry veterans Michael Sanderson and Chris Ferreri to its advisory board.
Sanderson is “one of the pioneers of trading technology,” who launched Instinet in 1990, an OpenDoor statement declares.
Ferreri, who is chief operating officer (COO) at Hartfield, Titus and Donnelly, LLC, spent more than three decades at ICAP, and is an “expert in fixed income and market structure,” the statement by Jersey City, N.J.-based OpenDoor notes.
Electra Has a New VP of Client Services from SS&C
Electra Information Systems, a New York City-based provider of reconciliation solutions for the asset management industry, reports the appointment of Paul Chung as vice president for client services.
He will report to Scott Rhodes, chief operating officer (COO) at Electra.
Chung has more than 17 years of experience at SS&C Technologies, according to an Electra statement, “where he worked in a variety of capacities across sales, consulting and relationship management.”
