Financial Technologies Forum (FTF) is proud to announce that the Editor’s Choice award for 2019 will be presented to Erica (Choinski) Borghi, honoring the immediate past chair for ISITC for her accomplishments and her service to the securities operations industry.
The Editor’s Choice award is part of the FTF News Technology Innovation Awards 2019, presented by FTF and FTF News. (In addition to the Editor’s Choice award, Borghi was separately nominated this year by her peers to be Ops Business Person of the Year.)
During her 2017-19 term at ISITIC, Borghi (and many ISITC industry volunteers) had a long list of emerging disruptive trends and ongoing operational conundrums to deal with.
As for disruptors, ISITC committees and members have been sorting out the operational impacts and use cases for the rapid rise of distributed ledger technology (DLT), blockchain systems, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and robotic process automation (RPA). If that weren’t enough, the industry is gauging the future of instruments based upon crypto-currencies.
These cutting-edge technologies could change many facets of operations, including reconciliation and reporting, clearing and settlement, and corporate actions processing — just to name a few.
Borghi has steered ISITC through these IT earthquakes and business trends while the industry shifts to a new world of derivatives, margining and collateral management. It was as if a post-regulation floodgate had been opened even though global regulatory reform was far from over.
Borghi is no stranger to operational issues. She has been involved with ISITC since 2004 and a member of the board since 2008. Her time on the ISITC board included serving as executive sponsor of the settlements working group, the regulatory working group, and as a member of the finance, website, and nominating committees.
Aside from serving as ISITC chair, Borghi is a vice president and the head of the risk and administration team within BBH Infomediary. She oversees the development of risk mitigation strategies across the business, including market practice changes, compliance updates, new client onboarding, and know your customer (KYC) processes. Her background in messaging standards and industry involvement have paved the way for a leadership role supporting BBH’s overall strategy for SWIFT/ISO messaging, according to the firm.
Before joining BBH, Borghi was part of State Street Corp., formerly Investors Bank and Trust, as a vice president within systems, officials say. Prior to the acquisition, she ran the team that implemented inbound trade communication projects across the firm.
This special award for Borghi will be presented at the 2019 FTF Award Winners gala on Thursday, June 27, at The Loeb Boathouse Central Park in New York City. If you are attending the gala, please stop by and congratulate Erica and the other award winners.
