Commissioner Jill Sommers to Leave CFTC
Republican CFTC commissioner Jill Sommers announced last week that she will be leaving the CFTC after the first quarter of this year and before her five-year term is up.In a prepared statement, Sommers acknowledged “the hard work and dedication of my fellow Commissioners and the many talented staff with whom I have had the pleasure of working for the past five years.” Sommers offered no explanation for her departure, which will upset the Democrat/Republican balance of the commission.
“While many challenges remain in finalizing the implementation of the Dodd-Frank Act, I have every confidence that the American public will be well-served by their continuing efforts,” Sommers says.
Wall Street Network Solutions Hires Bear Stearns Vet
High-performance network services provider Wall Street Network Solutions (WSNS) has hired industry veteran Frank Ruggiero as its managing director for engineering and operations, officials say. Ruggiero, who spent 13 years at the former Bear Stearns & Co., served as managing director, global transport services, with responsibility for vendor management, carrier engineering/provisioning and WAN/MAN engineering.
Ruggiero also held the role of vice president, vendor management/program development for enterprise infrastructure services, where he managed the company’s extensive partner program. Ruggiero has also served as a sales engineer at MCI Communications and IBM during the early part of his career.
XBRL Calls for Board Candidates
XBRL International is holding an election to fill an open at-large seat on the XBRL International board of directors (XII Board) during the XII Member Assembly meeting slated for Monday April 15, 2013 in Dublin, Ireland. Candidates should submit their CV together with a statement supporting their candidacy by private email directly to nominate@xbrl.orgno later than 23.59 UTC on February 28, 2013.
The candidate statement should specifically address the following questions:
- What experience/involvement have you had with the XBRL International organization?
- What experience/involvement with any XBRL activities/initiatives/projects?
- What special skills or experience do you believe you will bring to the XII Board?
Individuals may nominate themselves but the nominations committee will also be pleased to accept nominations of individuals from other people. “If you would like to nominate someone other than yourself, however, please make the nomination in sufficient time to allow us to contact the individual concerned to ask them whether they are willing to accept the nomination and submit their CV and candidate statement by the above deadline,” according to XBRL officials.
The key dates for the nominations:
- December 21, 2012—Nominations period opens;
- February 2, 2013 at 23:59 UTC—Nominations period closes;
- April 15, 2013—Elections take place at Dublin Member Assembly meeting.
