UBS Fills Two Top Posts
William Vereker will leave Nomura and join the investment bank division of UBS on June 1 as head of corporate client solutions, EMEA. Also starting in June, Oliver Bussmann will be moving to UBS from enterprise software provider SAP to become group chief information officer (CIO), say officials.The hiring of Vereker, who was joint head of global investment banking at Nomura, is part of the bank’s efforts to strengthen its institutional client franchise in Europe, officials say. The unit will see the start of a new cross business, global financial institutions group (FIG) to be led by David Soanes.
Vereker and Soanes, who will also be executive committee members, will report to the CEO of the investment bank division Andrea Orcel.
Before his time at Nomura, Vereker was at Lehman Brothers where he held the position of European head of investment banking and prior to that post he was head of global natural resources and power. He also held several roles in investment banking at Morgan Stanley over nine years.
Bussmann, who has been global CIO at SAP since 2009, spent nine years at Allianz Group where he held several technology roles in various regions and divisions. Before joining Allianz, Oliver worked at Deutsche Bank and IBM.
Bussmann succeeds Michele Trogni who is retiring from UBS after 25 years with the firm. Trogni has spent the past four years leading group technology, officials say.
UBS reorganized its investment bank last year around two core client segments—corporate client solutions (CCS) and investor client services (ICS). CCS includes all advisory, capital markets financing solutions and execution for corporate, financial and sponsor clients.
Eka Software Hires from the Chesapeake Group
Commodities trading and risk management vendor Eka Software Solutions has hired Srinivas Kalale to be vice president, corporate development, officials say. Before his new post, Kalale was in charge of the India Advisory Practice at the Chesapeake Group, a New York-based M&A advisory firm. He has more than 19 years of corporate experience, including positions with Pharus Advisors, relational database and software giant Oracle.
At Eka, Kalale will be responsible for global strategic partnerships and alliances, acquisitions and new growth opportunities. His career spans investment banking, M&A, strategy, product management and business development.
CFTC Promotes Jonathan Marcus to General Counsel
Jonathan L. Marcus has been promoted to be CFTC’s general counsel after serving for the past two years as the deputy general counsel for litigation, officials say. Marcus represented the CFTC in federal court and has been advising the commission on regulatory and legal matters.
Before the CFTC, Marcus was counsel at Covington & Burling LLP, where he was a member of the Supreme Court and Appellate Litigation Practice, officials say. Prior to that, Marcus served at the U.S. Department of Justice as an assistant to the Solicitor General, arguing five cases for the United States in the Supreme Court.
Former HedgeCo Networks President Joins I.A. Englander
Brett Langbert, former president and chief operating officer (COO) of HedgeCo Networks has joined Israel A. Englander’s Managed Accounts and Prime Services (MA&PS) division as managing director.
Langbert will oversee sales and distribution, officials say. MA&PS provides a platform of customized solutions for small- to mid-sized hedge funds and other participants in the alternative investment industry.
At HedgeCo Networks, Langbert was responsible for HedgeCo.Net, an Internet database for hedge fund content and performance. He also served as president for HedgeCo Securities where he managed a broker dealer that performed prime broker services, capital introduction and third-party marketing.
Before his time at HedgeCo, Langbert worked at UBS, where he served as managing director and head of prime brokerage sales for the Americas region. He was responsible for origination and distribution of a platform that oversaw prime brokerage of 750 institutional accounts across the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Latin America and South America.
He also was a managing director at Morgan Stanley, where he co-managed sales trading for the Americas region and was responsible for the firm’s merger arbitrage and capital structure arbitrage. Also during his tenure at the firm, he spearheaded a joint venture for cross-selling between equities and credit investors and segmented the firm’s institutional distribution business. He began his career at Goldman Sachs.
Perseus Names EVP for Global Procurement
A provider of ultra-low latency, high capacity global networks, Perseus Telecom has named Lorenz Voss as executive vice president of global procurement and strategy, officials say. Voss joins Perseus Telecom from Trading Technologies International where he was the head of global strategic sourcing.
Voss will lead the continued global expansion efforts at Perseus Telecom, further demonstrating the firm’s dedication to being a leading provider of ultra-low latency, high capacity connectivity and colocation services around the globe, officials say.
At Trading Technologies, Voss oversaw more than 130 vendor agreement negotiations and led analyses focused on performance latency reductions, officials say.
eFront Opens Sydney Office
eFront, an enterprise risk management software vendor for alternative investment firms, has opened an office in Sydney, Australia, officials say. This is the vendor’s first office in Australia and will be focused on the alternative investment industry in the Asia-Pacific region. The new office is in response to the growth of the private equity, real estate, infrastructure and other alternative investment markets in Australia and New Zealand.
