Financial Technologies Forum (FTF) and its news division FTF News will be closed Thursday and Friday, so that we can take a short break over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
We will be returning with hot news for the Monday morning after Thanksgiving.
But, in the meantime, we will be offering extremely useful content for the Friday after Thanksgiving — just in case you need a break from football, parades and holiday shopping, or if you need to do a video binge.
We have five video interviews from our recent Social Media and Compliance (SMAC) conference for the financial services industry and they offer great insights into social media compliance and on how the right social media strategies improve the customer experience.
Our rich set of interviews includes the following SMAC chats:
Interactive Social Media Bolsters Customer Experience
I got the chance to speak to SMAC keynote speaker Beth Wood Leidt, vice president for marketing at the Guardian Life Insurance Co., who talks about the upside of using social media-based interactive technologies.
SEI Leverages Blogging for Social Media Campaign
When I spoke to Amy Sitnick, a senior marketing manager at SEI, she offered insights into the importance of blogging in underpinning a firm’s social media efforts. Sitnick also has to coordinate campaigns with public relations and lead generation groups for integrated social media forays, including thought leadership initiatives.
Act Quickly During a Social Media Crisis
We got the chance to speak Al Raymond before he left his post as head of U.S. privacy and social media compliance for TD Bank. (He is now a specialist leader, privacy and data protection at Deloitte.) During our chat, Raymond urged firms to act quickly if they have a social media faux pas or worse a disaster to recover from.
Expert Urges Full Speed Ahead with Social Media
Industry expert Jennifer Openshaw, author of “The Socially Savvy Advisor: Compliant Social Media for the Financial Industry,” is a busy woman but she took time out to talk to us. We had a chat about how current guidance notices from regulators combined with new compliance best practices form the framework for most social media initiatives.
Primerica Cuts the Noise from Social Compliance
Getting to the heart of social media compliance issues requires sifting through a lot of noise. Michelle Chastain, vice president and associate general counsel, Primerica, works with a team to guide the firm’s social media effort and that means cutting out the noise of social media. She also has to and stay on top of the competition and be aware of the impacts on branding that may come via social media.
How to Avoid a Failed Social Media Strategy
Content is king for social media strategies, says Kerry Ryan, director, head of global web services at Legg Mason, who offers useful tips on strategy. The first step is to avoid content that lacks purpose or intent. This will insure that a firm’s resources will be efficiently applied to the strategy, Ryan says.
So, we wish you and yours a Great Thanksgiving holiday and we hope that we have helped your understanding of social media strategies and compliance.
