The ISITC standards and best practices trade group has honored Genevy Dimitrion with its Standard of Excellence Award, rewarding the industry veteran for her long-time service to the organization, the industry, and for the many industry initiatives she has helped develop.
The award was presented to Dimitrion at ISITC’s 25th Annual Securities Operations Summit in Boston earlier this week. She is the senior vice president and chief data steward at State Street’s Enterprise Data Governance and Management group.
An expert on enterprise data governance and an “unofficial social chair,” Dimitrion has been involved with ISITC since 1994.
Her long list of achievements includes her service as ISITC chair from 2008-2009 and ISITC board member from 2001-2014, officials say. Her commitment continues to the present as Dimitrion serves as an advisor to the ISITC board, providing consulting for several strategic efforts.
In addition, as a member of the board of directors for the EDM Council, Dimitrion sparked a partnership between ISITIC and the council, which advocates for better data standards and management efforts, and best practices. The agreement allows both groups to share complementary industry expertise and to collaborate on similar initiatives.
Beyond her standards work, Dimitrion is a frequent participant in thought leadership and high-profile industry events, stemming from her background in developing standards and related data initiatives. Over the years, she has developed areas of expertise in data governance, asset servicing, asset management, middle office systems, risk management, and derivatives operations. Her work has resulted in best practices in use by ISITC members and State Street’s clients.
“Genevy embodies the mission of ISITC to develop standards and best practices to move financial services operations forward, and we are proud to honor her accomplishments,” says Lisa Iagatta, ISITC chair. “Her dedication to developing data governance standards will leave a lasting impact and facilitate greater efficiency and innovation for years to come.”
In one telling moment, Richard Robinson, head of data strategy, standards and open symbology at Bloomberg, in his remarks before presenting the ISITC award, noted that Dimitrion demonstrated a “tag by tag” doggedness in establishing a list of best practices for the ISO 15022 standard.
“I doubt 15022 would have gotten anywhere it is today without those best practices and those best practices would have never happened without her,” says Robinson, who once worked with Dimitrion at Bankers Trust (later acquired by Deutsche Bank) in the global custody group.
A committee of select ISITC board members, led by Jan E. Snitzer, past ISITC chair chooses the recipient of the annual Standard of Excellence Award.
ISITC’s membership includes investment managers, broker-dealers, custodians, utilities and technology vendors that joins forces to develop standards and best practices, facilitating greater operational efficiencies for the securities industry
