Actiance Launches Alcatraz
Social media compliance systems provider Actiance has launched a cloud-based, archive service Alcatraz that expands upon the vendor’s Vantage and Socialite cloud solutions, say company officials.
Alcatraz offers an alternative approach to archiving by “retaining and retrieving content, even edits and deletes, as fully threaded, contextual conversations — and incorporating this alongside email,” according to Actiance officials.
The new solution can replicate what a blog or discussion board looked like at a particular point in time to make the retrieval of content easier for auditors, attorneys, and litigation support staff, officials say.
Alcatraz is an open platform that supports application programming interfaces that facilitate data gathering via customized or third-party applications, officials say. The data tools can help form a single repository for e-discovery support. The new platform, which offers integration with Vantage and Socialite, is in being beta tested with general availability slated for the spring.
NRI Targets Japan’s Next Generation EDINET System
Nomura Research Institute (NRI), a consulting and systems provider, has launched a solution for investment managers that automatically generates eXtensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL) files that conform to reporting rules set in motion by Japan’s Financial Services Agency (FSA).
The FSA’s Next Generation Electronic Disclosure for Investors’ NETwork (EDINET) requires firms to use XBRL for all securities filings, including financial reporting. To make content easily accessible for all user, reports must conform to EDINET’s specific text size and layout designs. This will facilitate the display of reports via web browsers, officials say. The mandate covers all securities filings from U.S. firms selling investment trusts in Japan, says Katsuhiko Fujita, senior managing director for NRI.
To help firms meet the FSA’s guidelines, NRI has launched the T-STAR/ReportAssist/EDINET (RA/EDINET) solution, delivered in a software as a service (SaaS) mode, officials say. “The report is generated automatically and firms can focus their resources on other areas of their business,” Fujita says.
The NRI offering converts Microsoft Word documents into XBRL-compliant formats and can combine information from accounting information via NRI financial solutions, officials say. The RA/EDINET solution encompasses the most recent January 2014 EDINET enhancements and can be integrated with T-STAR/TX, a de facto standard in Japan, officials say. NRI’s offering has been adopted by 16 investment management firms, including Nomura Asset Management.
Fujita says users of the NRI platform can makes data changes that are reflected automatically throughout the report. In addition, date-specific items can be calculated and inserted automatically. The platform offers workflow tools that enhance report production and end-users can check all documents before submitting them to the EDINET organization.
The RA/EDINET offering is managed via NRI’s datacenter, which accommodates private communication lines, officials say. The datacenter has a redundant architecture for business continuity planning support.
Abacus and Global Relay Partner for Message Archiving
Abacus Group, a hosted IT provider for alternative funds, and Global Relay, which offers hosted email archiving, messaging and compliance services, are partnering to provide a message archiving solution as part of the AbacusFLEX private cloud platform.
The partnership is intended to help firms conform to SEC and Dodd-Frank compliance requirements for message recordkeeping and supervision. The agreement with Global Relay will mean that AbacusFLEX clients’ email, Bloomberg, Instant Messenger (IM), mobile text messaging and call logs, and social media communications including LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook will be archived in the cloud, officials say.
Global Relay has seen a growing acceptance among hedge funds and private equity firms for hosted/cloud solutions, and partnering with IT solutions provider “like Abacus continues to reinforce our position in the industry,” says Bryan Young, head of sales for the vendor.
The agreement formalizes an informal arrangement, says Mark Kenney, director of operations at Abacus. Both companies have about 25 mutual clients, Kenney adds.
