SEC Appoints Associate Director for SEC Division
Melissa Hodgman has been named associate director in the SEC’s enforcement division, succeeding Stephen L. Cohen, who left in June, the SEC reports.
Hodgman began in the division in 2008 as a staff attorney, according to a statement, which notes also that she joined the market abuse unit in 2010 and was promoted to assistant director in 2012. She has “investigated or supervised dozens of enforcement recommendations spanning a variety of misconduct,” the SEC says, citing several cases, including that of a “Wall Street CEO and his company, family members, and business associates accused of secretly obtaining control and manipulating the stock of Chinese companies they were purportedly guiding through the process of raising capital and becoming publicly traded in the United States.”
Before joining the SEC, Hodgman was an associate at Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy in Washington, per the commission.
Fiserv Names McGranahan Group President
Fiserv Inc., a provider of a variety of financial services technology solutions, reports that Devin McGranahan has been named president of its billing and payments group, effective November 1, 2016.
He succeeds Rahul Gupta, who will leave after more than a decade in key leadership positions at Fiserv and more than 30 years serving the financial services and payments industries,” according to a statement.
McGranahan “brings more than 25 years of business and leadership experience to Fiserv. He most recently served as a senior partner at McKinsey and Company,” Fiserv says. “He also held a variety of management roles at the firm, including leader of the Global Insurance Practice and co-chair of the Global Senior Partner Election Committee. In addition, McGranahan served as co-leader of the North America Financial Services Practice.”
CalSTRS Fills Public Affairs Executive Officer Post
The California State Teachers’ Retirement System (CalSTRS) reports that Grant Boyken has been appointed public affairs executive officer, a new position, “established after the retirement of Ed Derman, the former deputy chief executive officer of the plan design and communication branch.”
In his new post, Boyken will “provide strategic leadership and oversight over CalSTRS External Affairs, Communications, and Governmental Relations divisions,” according to a statement.
Boyken worked in the state treasurer’s office, from 2008 to the present, first as the pension and benefits officer, and for the past two years as a deputy state treasurer, CalSTRS says. “Prior to his work with the State Treasurer’s Office, he was a senior policy researcher at the State Library’s California Research Bureau and the California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS),” officials add.
Ex-NYSE COO Joins Board of Environmental Commodity Markets Specialist
CBL Markets, an environmental commodity-markets specialist that recently acquired CTX Holdings Pty Ltd (CTXH) and its operating subsidiaries, reports that it has revamped its board of directors, naming Donald H. Putnam, a long-time financial services investor, chairman; Lawrence E. Leibowitz, formerly of NYSE Euronext and a member of the CTXH board, board member; and Jack Klinck, formerly of State Street Bank, non-executive director.
Putnam is managing partner of Grail Partners, which he founded in 2005, and “manages The Chalice Fund which invested in CTXH last
year and more recently into CBL Markets,” according to a statement.
“Our goal is to reinforce CBL Markets’ leadership as the only 24/7 global spot exchange for environmental commodities,” Putnam says, in a statement.
“Global markets require superb technology, deep relevant information and seamless settlement, and our aim is to consolidate the fragmented landscape of single-product environmental exchange venues.” Putnam adds. “Following the recent acquisition, it is our privilege to carry on delivering these essential ingredients to market participants worldwide.”
Leibowitz is formerly the chief operating officer (COO) of NYSE Euronext and Klinck was most recently executive vice president and head of global strategy and new ventures at State Street Corporation, per CBL.
