The TCW Group, a Los Angeles-based asset management firm, has added Melinda Newman and Drew Sweeney as senior vice presidents in the firm’s fixed income unit. They will be based in TCW’s headquarters.
Newman will be a senior analyst, “responsible for evaluating and making investment recommendations regarding high-yield and investment-grade credits,” and Sweeney will be a senior bank loan trader, according to a statement, which also specifies that Newman will report to Jamie Farnham, director of credit research, and Sweeney will report to Jerry Cudzil, head of U.S. credit trading.
Before joining TCW, Newman was the head of corporate credit research for fixed income at First Pacific Advisors. Prior to that, she served as a managing director and senior portfolio manager at Post Advisory Group, an institutional high-yield boutique in L.A.
Prior to joining TCW, Sweeney was the bank loan portfolio manager for Bradford & Marzec, where he served on the investment committee and managed loan strategies for both total return and collateralized loan obligation accounts. Before Bradford & Marzec, he worked for Macquarie Group in Los Angeles, overseeing both bank loan and high-yield bond investments.
“We are pleased to be adding senior talent to our long-tenured fixed income team,” Laird Landmann, group managing director and co-director of fixed income at TCW, said in a statement. “Credit is an increasingly important element in the overall market as we continue to see signs that we are in the later stages of the credit cycle.”
TCW manages more than $160 billion in client assets, the company reports.
